oh deary me sid!! a lovely picture - there's so much happening. but i didn't understand the title so i searched your blog for "orwell's children" saw the first post went back to the second post and bam!!!! there 'tis. the freakin' camera. i don't think there are any in the city i live in. do you ever "act" for them? do things just to take the piss out of whoever's watching?!!! steven
There are cameras on just about every street in cities in the UK. When I took the photo I didn't even see the camera in the shot - that's how ubiquitous they are.
On an out of town retail park once,Debbie and I were waiting for a bus home. We looked up and the camera swivelled round, angled down and stared at us. Without even thinking about it the two of went into a Four Tops style dance routine. The camera "nodded" up and down acknowledging our impromptu bout of street dance.
Then our bus came and we thought nothing more about it, joking that we'd probably end up on one of those idiot TV shows made up of CCTV clips.
About a year or more later a pal rang to tell me he'd seen a couple on said clip show doing a dance that looked a lot like the two of us. I have no idea if it was us or not.
I’m a freelance writer from North East England living in Whitley Bay. As well as writing sleevenotes for independent and major record labels, web content management, and contributions to both regional and national press, I’m the author of a critically acclaimed rock biography, In The Court of King Crimson (2001), and Northstars (2005), Granada TV’s Royal Television Award-winning series profiling musicians from the North East region. I’ve been blogging since 1999, commenting on music in particular and the arts in general, as well as whatever takes my fancy.
